Excisional Surgery

Excisional surgery is used to remove both benign skin growths and skin cancers. It is an outpatient procedure performed under local anesthesia. The surgically excised specimen will be sent to pathology for final diagnosis and margin evaluation, and there will be stitches that may or may not need to be removed. You will be provided with aftercare instructions.

Mohs Micrographic Surgery and Reconstruction

Dr. Soon is one of only a handful of Mohs surgeons in San Diego who completed a 1 year fellowship accredited by the American College of Mohs Surgery and is eligible for subspecialty certification in micrographic surgery and cutaneous oncology by the American Board of Dermatology. He has over 10 years of experience in Mohs surgery and in facial reconstruction. Mohs micrographic surgery is a specialized outpatient procedure performed under local anesthesia to treat skin cancer that offers the highest cure rate, while minimizing the amount of normal tissue excised through precise surgical mapping of the extent of the skin cancer. The procedure may take several hours to complete. There will be stitches that may or may not need to be removed. You will be provided with aftercare instructions. In advanced skin cancer cases. Dr. Soon will discuss and coordinate your care with a multi-disciplinary team to optimize your care.

Non-Surgical Skin Cancer Treatment and Prevention

The Skin Clinic MD offers a variety of preventive strategies for skin cancer, including topical medications (such as 5-fluorouracil and diclofenac), photodynamic therapy (where a solution is activated using a light source to treat pre-cancers), chemical peels, and oral supplements (such as niacinamide or leucomotos poplypodium). Non-surgical treatment options include topical creams (such as 5-fluorouracil and imquimod) as well as radiation therapy.
